First-time college students living on campus at the University of North Florida are required to purchase a meal plan, with options including weekly swipes, block plans and all-access plans.
At UNF, all first-time in college (FTIC) students who live on campus are required to purchase a meal plan during the Summer B, Fall and Spring semesters. Block plans are available, but don’t satisfy the FTIC requirement; FTIC students living on campus must purchase either an all-access membership or a meal-per-week membership, according to UNF’s Dining Services.
If the student does not select a plan before the deadline, UNF will automatically choose the 14-weekly-swipes plan for them, according to UNF Dining Services.
Students who aren’t first time in college students, or students who live off campus, are not required to purchase a meal plan.
Weekly swipes
The membership with the least amount of meal swipes that satisfies the FTIC requirement provides 10 meal swipes to use each week. The 10-weekly-swipes membership for the full summer semester includes 300 dining dollars and costs $1,864.82.
For the fall and spring semesters, there are also options for a 14-weekly swipes plan and 19-weekly swipes plan. For the summer B semester, the 10-weekly-swipes membership includes 150 dining dollars and costs $923.41.
The meal swipes can be used at the Osprey Cafe or as a $7.05 credit at other dining options on campus.
More details on weekly meal swipe plans can be found on the dining services website
Block meal plans
Block meal plans give students a set amount of meal swipes to use throughout the semester. Meals can be at the Osprey Cafe, or students can use $7.05 meal credit at any of the dining locations on campus, according to UNF’s Dining Services website. Students can use these at their own pace.
Some block meal plans include 110, 75, 45 and 30 swipes per semester.
- 110 meal swipes and 200 dining dollars to use throughout the semester cost $1,324.95
- 75 meal swipes and 250 dining dollars cost 1,037.47
- 75 meal swipes and 150 dining dollars cost $933.47
- 45 meal swipes and 300 dining dollars cost $792.16
- 45 meal swipes and 200 dining dollars cost $692.16
- 30 meal swipes and 200 dining dollars cost $551.54
All access meal plans
All-access meal plans grant students free access to the Osprey Cafe five to seven days a week to use their meal swipes whenever they want, depending on which all-access meal plan the student chooses.
Fall and Spring all access
- Five-day all-access and 300 dining dollars cost $2,690.56
- Seven-day all-access and 15 dining dollars cost $2,821.79
Summer B all access
- Five-day all-access and 150 dining dollars cost $1,064.03
- Seven-day all-access and 100 dining dollars cost $1,126.51
There are additional meal plan options for the full summer and summer B semesters on the UNF Dining Services website.
Student thoughts
In a UNF Spinnaker Instagram poll, viewers were asked if they were able to use all of their meal swipes every week. 66% of those who submitted a response said they were not able to use all of their meal swipes each week.
“It helped me get into the groove of college, having a meal plan my freshman year, ” UNF Interdisciplinary Studies major Dakota Williams said as a response to the poll.
However, some students felt differently about the meal plans.
Lexie McBride, a psychology major at UNF, said, “Bullshit, the food caused weight gain and is so unhealthy, too salty it made my face puffy,” in response to the poll.
