Knights shut out Ospreys in non-conference bout

Senior Jordan Spicer’s stellar performance on the mound led the Knights to a 5-0 win over the UNF Ospreys.

The Ospreys ran into early trouble in the bottom of the first as Senior Ethan Michaelis allowed RBI singles to Redshirt-Senior Tyler Osik and Junior Dallas Beaver for a 2-0 UCF lead.

Osik sent a ball over the right field wall for a solo homer in the bottom of the third to extend the Knights lead to 3-0.

Spicer was dominant on the mound as he hurled six scoreless innings while allowing two hits and punched out three.

The Ospreys bullpen tightened up in innings four through six as Freshmen Will Ohme, Zach Chappell, and Logan Clayton combined for three shutout innings in relief.

The final nail in the coffin was Beaver’s two-run jack to right center to pad UCF’s lead to 5-0.

UNF couldn’t plate a runner in the remaining innings, resulting in a 5-0 loss.

Worth Noting

Senior Chris Berry was the lone Osprey with a multi-hit game for the Ospreys(2).

The loss drops UNF to 16-11(2-1 ASUN) and the win improves UCF to 16-9 (0-3 American).

UNF heads up to Lynchburg, Virginia to take on Liberty for a weekend wraparound series starting on Friday, March 29 at 6 p.m.
