The University of North Florida is building a new Student Success Center that will bring tutoring, advising and other academic support services together under one roof.
The new building, which is under construction next to the Thomas G. Carpenter Library, is being developed in response to steady student population growth in recent years, according to Chris Wainright, UNF’s director of Campus Planning, Design and Construction.
The department received funding for the project in 2024, but construction did not begin until late 2025, Wainright said.
The 66,000-square-foot center will include academic labs, study spaces, classrooms, student advising offices and a full-size Chick-fil-A. Plans also include a third-floor connection between the center and the library, allowing students and faculty to move between both buildings, according to Wainright.
Once tutoring, advising and lab offices move into the new center, several of their former spaces across campus will be left vacant. UNF plans to repurpose those areas, but no specific plans have been made, Wainright said.
The Student Success Center is expected to be completed and open during the fall 2027 semester, said Wainright.
