Ospreys fall in first round of NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship

In the first round of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship, North Florida lost to the University of South Carolina, 4-0.

To begin the match, all three of the Gamecock’s pairs defeated UNF in doubles matches (6-0, 6-1, 4-3).

Senior Paige Cline of USC began the first singles match against Junior Lucia Montano. Cline went onto win two straight sets (6-0, 6-1).

The Gamecocks earned another match point when Sophomore Kennedy Wicker defeated UNF’s Sophomore Florencia Rossi in two straight sets (6-1, 6-0).

Junior Mia Horvit sealed the deal for USC as she got the match winning point after defeating Freshman Ana Paula Melilo (6-4, 6-1).

This brings the Ospreys season to a close but the team can hang their hats on their fifth straight year of being ASUN Conference Champions.

Senior Rafaela Gomez earned ASUN All-Conference first team and made the All-Academic list.

Melilo was named to the second team All-Conference and was a unanimous All-Freshman team selection.
