The University of North Florida has earned the Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement for the third consecutive time, an achievement that recognizes its sustained commitment to community partnerships and public impact. 

UNF is one of only 277 institutions nationwide to receive the designation, awarded by the American Council of Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

In a campuswide email on Monday, President Moez Limayem thanked UNF faculty and staff for championing community-based learning.

“Your efforts make this achievement possible,” Limayem said.

The classification highlights UNF’s integration of community engagement across teaching, research and service, connecting students and faculty with local organizations, businesses and schools to address real-world challenges. University leaders cited the recognition as affirmation of UNF’s strategic focus on expanding community partnerships and uplifting the Northeast Florida region.

UNF previously received the designation in 2010 and 2020. The Carnegie classification is awarded following an extensive self-study that evaluates how community engagement is embedded throughout an institution’s culture, programs and leadership.
