10 things you need to know about Juliemay Syquio

Junior guard Juliemay Syquio led the UNF women’s basketball team to a win against league-leading Florida Gulf Coast University. The win helped the Ospreys secure a spot in the 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference women’s basketball championship and allowed Syquio to claim her second career Player of the Week award. Here are 10 things you need to know about the junior point guard.

You were just named the A-Sun player of the week, how do you feel about that?

I don’t think it is anything more special than just working hard. I mean, an honor is a good thing … actually I’d rather not have it because it’s like a standard you got to keep, a higher standard. It’s really nice to get some sort of recognition, but it’s not any more special than any other day.

What kinds of hobbies do you have outside of basketball?

Eating … I love to eat. Just hanging out and going to movies.

What’s your favorite food?

Sushi, definitely.

What’s your favorite movie in theaters?

Well I just saw Shutter Island, and I wouldn’t recommend it. I like comedy movies where there’s not a lot of thinking.

What has been your favorite road trip with or without the basketball team?

Any where in Florida, just because the weather is nicer down here throughout the year. It’s a lot better than going any where cold.

What do you plan to do after college?

I’m in the education field, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to teach. If I don’t plan on playing some where, I definitely want to be around basketball, like a coach.

What’s your favorite sport outside of basketball?

Bowling. I haven’t played in a while, but if I had to pick a sport outside of basketball, it would be bowling.

What do you expect to do next year, since you’re a senior?

Hopefully just improve skill-wise. Our record this year wasn’t what we wanted it to be. I hope we can get better and do better.

What’s your favorite show on TV right now?

Either Criminal Minds or Law and Order S.V.U.

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would be?

Back to Japan. I grew up there for like 11 years. It’s definitely some where I want to go back. I’d definitely get some sushi.
