Jaguars season ticket sales a roaring success

For three days, lines of students bought up Student Government’s (SG) discounted season tickets at the Osprey plaza. Jaguars cheerleaders and mascot Jaxson de Ville were present as SG tripled the season tickets they sold on the first day of sales last year.

Last year, 288 season tickets were sold over the three July sales dates. This year, 308 were sold on the first day of sales alone. The remaining tickets were gone by July 21.

SG Public Relations Director Alejandro Nieto attributed the success of this year’s ticket sales to returning students and SG’s promotion of the program.

“People who bought tickets from last year knew it was a hot item, through word of mouth and social media marketing as well,” Nieto said. “They’ve [the Jaguars] invested a lot in their image, it’s way better. For that reason, there’s an appeal for college students.”

He said the idea started six years ago, as a way to give the students the opportunity to engage with the Jacksonville community.

The season tickets include a preseason game, a locker room tour, and entrance into a raffle for club seats for two games and Jaguars merchandise. There is a $5.00 parking discount from Tailgaters Lot.

“With the student section and the Tailgaters parking discount we’re able to offer students, it’s become an big event here, considering we don’t have a football team,” SG Project Manager Bryant said.

For the remaining SG ticket sale date, August 24, the Jaguars will offer students discounted season tickets on the 400 level for $245. On the team’s website, season tickets at the 400 level start at $378. The number of tickets that will be offered at this rate is undetermined at this time.
