The Student Alliance for Inclusion and Diversity (SAID) is celebrating “YouNF Week” as a way to engage students in events and activities that promote diversity and inclusion all week long.

Monday, Jan. 15

MLK Day of Service

When: 7.am. – 1 p.m.

SAID is partnering with Housing and Residence Life and the Center for Community Based Learning to gather volunteers for United Way’s MLK Day of Service. There will be two different projects students can volunteer for throughout the day. Students can either help organize supplies at Teacher Supply Depot or help clean up Kooker Park.  There are only 20 spots available, and students must sign up by Thursday, Jan. 11. They can sign up by emailing [email protected] and providing their name, N number and a phone number.

Tuesday, Jan. 16

Trans@UNF

When: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Where: Student Union Meeting Room 3806 (Bldg. 58W)

The Department for Diversity Initiatives and the LGBT Resource Center will be teaming up to discuss policies and procedures that affect transgender and gender non-binary students. The event will host panelists like the Student Ombuds and Assistant Dean of Students Andrea Adams-Manning, Professor of Anthropology and Director of Academic Technology Gordon Rakita, and Student Assistant Jasmine Elise Graham.

“The World First Told Me I Was Different…”: A Story Telling Extravaganza

When: 1 p.m.

Where: Student Union Ballroom A & B (Bldg. 58W)

Instead of having a panel speak, students will get a chance to speak for themselves. SAID, the LGBT Resource Center and the International Center are hosting this event to engage students in a learning exercise that will briefly recall a student’s first experience with difference.

Wednesday, Jan. 17

I-Dinner: Breaking Bread Across Difference

When: 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Where: Student Union Ballroom B & C (Bldg. 58)

SAID and the Interfaith Center are teaming up to encourage students to step outside their comfort zone and explore why differences can make them feel uncomfortable. There will be a free multicultural meal for students accompanied with trivia, arts & crafts, and games.

Thursday, Jan. 18

Sankofa Traveling African American History Museum

When: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Where: Student Union Ballroom 3703 (Bldg. 58W)

The National African American History Museum will be coming to UNF to teach students about the “unique and rich heritage of African Americans.” This event, presented by the Black Student Union, will be free and be an open exhibit, meaning students can wander in and out throughout the day.

YOUnity Fest

When: 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Where: Student Union Ballroom 3703 (Bldg. 58W)

The highlight of YouNF week is YOUnity Fest. Together SAID and Campus Life will be throwing an evening of games, music, food, performances and fun as students celebrate diversity and inclusivity.

Friday, Jan. 19

Friday Lounge on the Move: Human Tic Tac Toe

When: 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Where: Founders Hall Suite 1400 (Bldg. 2)

This event, co-sponsored by SAID and the Women’s Center, will finish off the week with none other than a game of tic-tac-toe. Students can connect while playing this game and learn about each other’s differences at the same time.
