On Wednesday, May 16 The Florida Department of Transportation put out a local traffic advisory after the right turn lanes of eastbound Beach Blvd. near Hodges Blvd. reportedly collapsed.

According to a statement by JEA, who has been assisting with the repairs, the road collapse is not a sinkhole but is actually the result of a drainage-pipe problem.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has barricaded the lanes and adjacent sidewalk, though the Florida Department of Transportation has reported that the other lanes of the road will remain open.

As a result, the public buses will not be driving through the area and riders are encouraged to find alternative routes until further notice.

“Due to the road collapsing on Beach Blvd. near Hodges, the eastbound Route 9 and any Paratransit service will be detoured from the area until further notice,” Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) tweeted.

Maintenance crews are reportedly assessing the void and making repairs as necessary.
