Tropical Storm Gordon predicted to strengthen into hurricane over the Gulf of Mexico

Tropical Storm Gordon delivered a glancing blow to South Florida on the afternoon of Sept. 3 before continuing northwesterly movement into the Gulf of Mexico overnight.

According to the National Hurricane Center’s 8 a.m. update on the storm, Gordon is currently continuing its northwestward movement across the Gulf of Mexico and is forecast to be a hurricane when it makes landfall along the north-central Gulf Coast.

Gordon is maintaining maximum sustained winds of 65 mph and should make landfall by this afternoon or evening.

The NHC reported a Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Mouth of the Pearl River to the Alabama-Florida Border, and a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for parts of Louisiana, as well as the Alabama-Florida Border to Okaloosa-Walton County Line.
