New York Jets vs Jacksonville Jaguars Preview
September 29, 2018
Despite a head scratching loss to the Tennessee Titans, the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1 Overall) should get another win this week against the New York Jets (1-2 Overall).
The Jags are coming home after a 6-9 loss to the Titans. Jacksonville’s offense struggled far too often against Tennessee. Blake Bortles couldn’t get much done. Bortles put up 155 yards through the air and 27 on the ground with no touchdowns or interceptions. T.J Yeldon was the team’s leading receiver with six catches for 46 yards. Without the impact of their star running back Leonard Fournette, the Jags offense looked like it needed a spark for most of the game. Fumbles also played a huge role in the Jags loss. Two crucial fumbles by Bortles and wide receiver Donte Moncrief helped the Titans secure the victory.
On the other hand, the Jets head into this week’s game following a 21-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns. After thumping the Lions, 48-17, fans across the league were starting to pay attention to the number three pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Sam Darnold. Since his red-hot start, Darnold has struggled when facing the Browns and the Dolphins. So far, Darnold has been the beneficiary when the run game gets going. Jets running back Isaiah Crowell has 171 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the season so far.
I’m picking the Jags to win this game for two reasons: they have a better defense, and home field advantage. The Jets are already aware of the defensive monsters that reside in Jacksonville. However, that doesn’t mean that being a rookie will prevent Darnold from making mistakes. The Jags defense is currently fourth in defense, only conceding an average of 286 yards per game. Being at home is always an advantage. I also expect a better effort from the Jags to remind everyone who won the AFC South and competed against the Patriots to go to the Super Bowl. I’m picking Jacksonville to win, 24-13.
