The University of North Florida event calendar website lists a variety of campus events focusing on cultural celebrations, wellness activities, and a discussion on the Bill of Rights as part of its American 250 series.
As part of the schedule, there will be a Kompa Music Night event, “Soaring into Wellness: A Healthy Osprey Block Party,” featuring food and exercise and a panel discussion hosted by the Office of Public Policy Events, “Liberty on Trial: Debating the Bill of Rights.”
Kompa Night
Rasine Kreyol was founded to promote and educate others about Haiti’s vibrant culture and history, according to the UNF Perch Portal website.
Rasine Kreyol will host Kompa Night according to the UNF events calendar. This event is organized by Lorie Louis.
During Kompa Night, students and faculty can enjoy Haitian music and dance according to the event post. Kompa Night offers a chance to relax, socialize, and experience Kompa while celebrating Caribbean culture with friends.
According to the KOTR Dance Studio website, “Kompa” is a type of Haitian dance music that resembles modern merengue and Caribbean dances. The genre was popularized in 1955 by Nemours Jean-Baptiste. Compas is a main music genre in many countries, such as Dominica and the French Antilles. On March 30 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Building 55 at Osprey Fountains residence hall.
Soaring into Wellness: A Healthy Osprey Block Party
According to the UNF events calendar website, the Healthy Osprey Group will hold a block party called “Soaring into Wellness” outside the Student Wellness Complex on March 31.
Valerie Morrison, Senior Director of Student Health Services, will organize the event. According to the Brooks College of Health index, Student Health Services comprises three areas: the Student Health Clinic, Medical Compliance, and Outreach and Education Programs.
The Healthy Osprey Recreation and Wellness index website says Healthy Osprey aims to promote the well-being of the UNF community by providing recreational opportunities.
According to the event post, there will be a DJ, food, exercise demonstrations, stress ball crafting and more. Students can come to dance, de-stress, or just hang out.
Liberty on Trial: Debating the Bill of Rights
There will be a panel discussion on “Liberty on Trial: Debating the Bill of Rights” at the University of North Florida, according to UNF’s events calendar website.
The description on the UNF event calendar states that a group of experts will debate one of the most significant contributions to liberty in human history: the Bill of Rights.
Panelists will explore how it shaped the nation’s founding and history and its relevance today. The event is part of UNF’s American 250 series. Students can join the discussion and share their thoughts on the Bill of Rights.
Nicholas Seabrook will organize the event. According to the UNF faculty bios, Seabrook teaches political science. He is the chair of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, and he directs the Office of Public Policy Events at UNF.
According to the Office of Public Policy Events website, the Office of Public Policy aims to foster active citizenship by bringing together campus and community members to discuss public policy issues from different viewpoints. The office endorses principles of civil discourse and promotes civility in its events, which are open to the public. On April 1 in the Andrew A. Robinson Jr. Theater, Building 14A.
