The University of North Florida has appointed Will Pewitt as the new dean of the Hicks Honors College, according to a campus-wide email sent on June 5. He will assume the role on July 6.
Prior to Pewitt’s appointment, the Hicks Honors College was led by Dr. Peter Scott Brown, who served as the interim dean. Before Brown, Dr. Jeffrey Chamberlain served as the inaugural dean of the college, holding the position from 2017 until he stepped down toward retirement in 2024.
Since 2010, Pewitt has been with UNF and served as the college’s assistant director and special assistant to the dean over the past year, according to the university press release.
Throughout his tenure at UNF, he has taught in the English department and held various roles within the honors college, including faculty fellow, senior fellow, and Honors Council member.
Pewitt’s work with the college’s leadership helped drive a turnaround in the form of significant enrollment growth, according to the university’s announcement.
“His work with HHC leadership and partners helped to drive transformational enrollment growth while building scalable operational infrastructure serving UNF’s more than 1,100 active honors students,” read the university’s announcement.
Pewitt joins a few recent dean appointments at the UNF over the past year:
- Dr. Gary Giamartino, interim dean of the Coggin College of Business
- Joshua Gellers, dean of Professional and Lifelong Learning
- Dr. Mei Zhao, dean of the Brooks College of Health
