James Jones, treasurer for UNF’s Greek Council, was arrested and charged with a third-degree felony, employee theft, for charging an unauthorized $2,600 onto a fraternity’s credit card, according to a police report released by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
He was given the credit card with the intent of purchasing a few hundred dollars worth of trophies, and when approached about the extra purchases, said he would pay the organization back and wrote a check for the total amount taken, according to the report.
The Spinnaker tried to contact Jones through e-mail and over the phone, but he did not respond.
The Spinnaker also tried to speak with many members of Fraternity & Sorority Life, but the department offered ‘no comment’ on the situation.

Joe Fraternity obviously has a personal grudge against the Greek Life Coordinator. The man charged had worked closely with Greek Life and the university for several years. What’s important is that the incident was detected and the thief was apprehended.

I knew James when I attended UNF. We rushed for some of the frats. He was always cool to me. Can’t believe that.

Where was the Greek Advisor during this shopping spree? $2600 is a lot of money to just go missing, and no one saw a thing. Perhaps there are more people involved in this theft. Again, where was the advisor during all of this? There is a position that is paid by the Student Government to advise and monitor the actions of the Fraternity and Sorority life, but grand theft must have slipped his plate. Perhaps, instead of working on his own agenda, he should focus his efforts to the responsibilities of his position.
