The North Florida men’s soccer team defeated the University of Central Florida Knights 1-0 on Wednesday, Sep. 17. The Ospreys improved to 3-3 on the year and defeated UCF for the second straight season.

A UCF foul led to a free kick for sophomore Simen Solstad, who was chosen to shoot by Head Coach Derek Marinatos. Solstad connected for his fourth goal of the season in the 76th minute to give UNF a lead they would not relinquish.

The Ospreys were coming off a three-game losing streak, where they got outscored by a total of 2-10.

Kyle Nasta, a junior, was making his first start of the season as goalie and landed his first career shutout. The Ospreys only allowed one shot on goal during the second half. Nasta was recently named the Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

“Nasta made some key saves for us in goal,” Marinatos said. “A credit to Coach Dunn for our defensive organization tonight — they [UCF] had a tough time breaking us down.”

UNF’s game against Wofford College was canceled this past Saturday. Their next game is an Atlantic Sun Conference match against Stetson University on Sep. 27, at 7 p.m in Deland, Fla.
