Starting January 2015, home games of UNF men's and women's basketball will be streaming from ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN app. Led by communications professor Dr. Deeley, student volunteers will make up the production team, which wishes to expand coverage to other varsity sports and away games.
When Romelo Banks was 13 years old, he would listen to his mom tell him to keep playing basketball and never give up on his dreams. Banks’ mother passed away shortly after she spoke those words to him, but Banks still follows that advice and uses it as inspiration to this day. Six years later, he has followed her instruction and plays center for the University of North Florida’s men’s basketball team.
The UNF men’s golf team has been on the upswing this season. Joey Petronio, UNF senior golfer, not only improves his numbers on the scorecard this season but has been growing mentally, which is a huge part of the sport.
LPGA professional golfer Lexi Thompson visited UNF Oct. 1 as a part of Red Bull Tee Time. 19 year old Thompson hopes that Tee Time will bring her closer to her fans.
UNF junior Emelie Alpe, hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, recently broke the university’s lowest round score record for women’s golf. Although there are a few language barriers, her coach makes note of her focus and Alpe herself is always looking to improve at the game she loves.
Last weekend, UNF hosted the annual Bedford Cup for the first time. Ten Division I men's tennis teams came to Jacksonville to compete in the annual tournament.
