Red Bull Skateboarding held a competition Jan. 20 called “The King of Campus” at the UNF skate park for UNF student-riders. More than 50 riders ollied out to show their gnar and throw down some radical maneuvers and partake in the demo, while several spectators barbecued and partied on the side lines.
Seventeen riders competed, each offering different styles and tricks to wow the judges.
With an abundance of Red Bull and a cool breeze, everyone raged with energy.
The competition consisted of five heats with three to four skaters in each, and with guest judge and professional skateboarder Mike Peterson around, all stops were pulled right out.
The winner of each heat took the place on the throne until someone scored higher than them. In the end, it came down to five skaters in the final heat.
All the skaters shredded hard, but only one came out on top.
After some mishaps with the “winner,” who apparently did not go to UNF, the real winner, Phillip Hollimon, snagged the crown as king. He received a two-night stay in a hotel and two free tickets to the Tampa Pro Skateboard Contest.
Thanks to sponsor Red Bull, the contest proved to be a success, and UNF can look to see more skating competitions on the horizon.
