Music-loving Ospreys face a week of multiple concerts with performances by national touring acts to Jacksonville-based musicians. Osprey Productions’ (OP) two-day OZ Fest begins Thursday at 3 p.m., but students who can’t wait until then to be entertained can attend UNF Healthy Ospreys’ Battle of the Bands the same day.

The Dueling Ospreys Battle of the Bands starts at 1 p.m. and ends at 3 p.m. on Mar. 5 at the Student Union Plaza. The winning band will be featured in an on-air performance and a filmed studio session on Spinnaker Radio.

The competition is part of the Healthy Osprey Kick Off at the Student Union Plaza and is still taking applications. According the event page, students, alumni and faculty are invited to compete for the prize. The bands have yet to be announced.

UNF Healthy Osprey Ambassador Kelsey Liz said a panel of four judges will decide the overall winner of the competition. The judges are Spinnaker Radio’s station manager Annie Black, music director Tyler Shutowick, 97.9 Kiss FM’s Catalina Alers-Alers and 93.3FM The Beat’s DJ Dr. Doom. A people’s choice winner will be selected through UNF Health Promotion’s social media channels, using Instagram and Facebook likes.

OP Assistant Director Andrew Coconato told Spinnaker the scheduling of both OZ Fest and the Dueling Ospreys Battle of the Bands was coincidental. The events do not conflict with each other.

The Healthy Osprey Kick Off will feature other events from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., including group yoga, a farmer’s market, strength training and a Pros vs. Joes competition.
