UNF’s Title IX committee members discussed current and future initiatives to improve overall university awareness of Title IX compliance on May 20.

Title IX, a part of the United States Education Amendments of 1972, protects students from gender discrimination.

According to Title IX outreach statistics as of April 30, 2015, UNF’s total population awareness of Title IX is 23 percent, with student awareness at 23 percent as well.

In order to improve students’ Title IX awareness, the committee is currently exploring online training for new and FTIC students.

Title IX coordinators are currently conducting a self-audit to account for the university’s Title IX compliance. Coordinators are also running an initiative to place Title IX-related notices in campus restrooms.

The Title IX committee reviewed the development of a Victim’s Help Directory and Victims/Witness Pamphlet.

Committee members also discussed future plans to further improve Title IX education within the university. The committee’s next steps include a Title IX Implementation plan, updating UNF’s Sexual Misconduct Regulation, and building a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and/or protocol with local police.
