Ospreys open conference play with a 97-79 victory over Stetson

UNF men’s basketball (12-6 overall, 1-0 A-Sun) exploded for a 97-79 victory over the Stetson Hatters (6-10 overall, 0-1 A-Sun) in Deland, Florida on Jan. 6.

In the opening half, the Hatters scored first over the Ospreys behind a three-pointer from forward Derick Newton. Newton contributed 22 points and 7 rebounds for the Hatters. The game leaned in Stetson’s favor for the majority of the first half before UNF began a rally to cut into the lead.

With 7:56 left in the first half, redshirt junior Aaron Bodager made a three-pointer to give the Ospreys a 26-25 lead. Bodager finished with 9 points off the bench and UNF went into the break with a 38-37 advantage.

Guard Dallas Moore opened the second half with a layup and from there the Ospreys pulled away from the Hatters to seal the victory. UNF dominated the paint, hitting the boards for 15 offensive rebounds which led to 20 second chance points for the Ospreys.

Moore finished the night with a game-high 30 points as his teammate forward Demarcus Daniels tallied 22 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Chris Davenport had a monster night on the boards, snatching 16 rebounds while adding 15 points and dishing out 9 assists.

Next, UNF will return home to face their cross-town rival the Jacksonville University Dolphins at the UNF Arena on Jan. 9th at 7 p.m.
