UNF’s softball team signed six players during the early signing period. All six of the ladies are from the sunshine state.

Mackenzie Griffin, Macy Jackson, Taylor Scott, Cathy Vega, Cortney Wentzell and Bailey Wilson will all join the team next season.

Head Coach Marcie Hickey spoke on the signees.

“We are very excited about the athleticism of our 2017 class,” said Hickey. “All of these players will impact us in some way when they arrive. They will all battle for starting positions and add needed depth all over our defense.”

Mackenzie Griffin, a three-position player, has helped her team to two consecutive district championships. She received 9A first team honor as an infielder.

Macy Jackson, a pitcher, helped her team to three district championships, two final fours and a state championship. Jackson was named All-State Pitcher of the Year.

Taylor Scott, an outfielder, aided her team to a district championship. Scott is the true definition of a student-athlete, holding a 3.9 grade-point average. Her speed will be an asset for the Ospreys.

Cathy Vega, a catcher, helped her team to become district champs. Vega was named defensive player of the year twice by her coaches.

Cortney Wentzell, a multiple position player, has her school’s record for the most hits in a season. The potential starter has hit 19 home runs.

Bailey Wilson, a shortstop, was named to the all-county second team three times. Her squad finished as the 2015 District champions. She currently is teammates with Scott at Palm Harbor University High School.

Scott, Wentzell and Wilson will bring chemistry to North Florida from their days of playing club softball for the Florida Batbusters.

You can catch all these ladies on the field during the 2018 softball season.
