Men’s soccer defeat JU

Men’s soccer (2-9-2 overall, 1-3-1 ASUN) took down crosstown rival, Jacksonville University (3-9-1 overall, 1-3-1 ASUN) in a 2-1 victory at the Southern Oak Stadium on Oct.25.

The Dolphins’ Steven Saunders struck first at the four minute mark with a rebound kick after his goalkeeper hit a UNF defender.

North Florida responded with a goal of their own at the 10 minute mark off of Adrian Nunez’s free kick to knot the score.

In the 33rd minute, JU was issued a red card leaving them a player down for the remainder of the game.

UNF racked up their game-winning goal in the 45th minute behind Josh Castellanos’ header off teammate Mikey Connell’s free kick.

In the intense matchup, there was 20 fouls, 5 yellow cards, and 1 red card.

The Ospreys held the shots advantage 16-8 over the Dolphins.  On the defense side, goalkeeper Juanes Fajardo had five saves.

North Florida closes out its regular season at Hodges Stadium on Oct.28 for senior night against the USC Upstate Spartans at 7 p.m.

The winner of the matchup will secure the final spot in the ASUN men’s soccer championship.
