Action News Jax partnered with other local businesses to bring hurricane relief to the Bahamas.

Brittany Austin, the community relations manager at WJAX, said donations will be driven to Melbourne and then will be taken by vessel and air to the Grand Bahamas and Abaco.

Hurricane Dorian, the Category 5 storm, left the Bahamas facing deviating conditions. Austin said the drive is collecting: water, coffee, hygiene products, pet food, flashlights, batteries, and diapers.

Action News Jax, 104.5 WOKV, Reads Moving System and volunteers made the Convoy of Care: Bahamas Hurricane Relief happen. Among the tents and crowds of the relief support, a bahamian family partook in the cause.

The community brought donations to the drop off at the outer edge of Maggiano’s courtyard in St. Johns Town Center, where curbside assistance steps in to collect the supplies. The one-day event ran for hours in the sun while people unloaded one vehicle after another.

Austin said the relief started at 7 a.m. and concludes at 2 p.m. and the relief hopes to continue filling the moving trucks.
