School of Computing Recognized for Cyber Defense Education

UNF’s School of Computing has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

This designation, which lasts through 2024, is awarded to programs that meet specific academic guidelines and are validated by experts in the cybersecurity field. It also makes students eligible for certain scholarships and research grants.

“I’m very pleased that our undergraduate curriculum was recognized by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security,” said Dr. Sherif Elfayoumy, director of the UNF School of Computing. “The designation will put the UNF School of Computing programs in cybersecurity on the national stage.”

In addition to the designation, the School of Computing recently opened a new cybersecurity lab with the help of a $100,000 gift from China-based Pax Technology, an international supplier of electronic payment terminals and transaction software.
