March Madness: Inside Look

Finally, after a year of waiting, the biggest tournament in all of sports is finally here once again; March Madness 2009. For those of you who are die-hard Osprey fans, or don’t know very much about college basketball you may be having some trouble deciding how to fill out your brackets and who to cheer for. Here is a look at a few general norms to follow when it comes to tournament time and the lowdown on a few of this year’s teams to watch.

Kilcullen steps down as Ospreys head coach

Madness has taken over the sport of college basketball this March, and UNF men’s basketball is feeling it in its own way. UNF Athletic Director Lee Moon announced March 16 that UNF Men’s Basketball Head Coach Matt Kilcullen will step down from his current position to take on a new role within the administration of UNF athletics.

Ospreys set highest margin of victory

The UNF men’s basketball team defeated Atlantic Sun rival Kennesaw State University Jan. 9 66-44 for its first win in conference play and largest margin of victory against an NCAA Division I opponent. UNF (3-12, 1-4 A-Sun) snapped a four-game losing streak and kept Kennesaw State to 16 points in the second half. Four of UNF’s starters scored in double figures led by freshman forward Matt Sauey, who scored 15 points. UNF out-rebounded Kennesaw State 48-33 and pulled down 20 offensive rebounds, which accounted for 19 second-chance points. Junior guard Germaine Sparkes led the way for the Ospreys with a career-high 13 rebounds. Jonathan Whipple also collected a team high six rebounds for Kennesaw State.
