Spinnaker sat down with former Senate President Kaitlin Ramirez to discuss her perspective on the noncompliances issued against her, the vague statutes and the tension in Student Government while she was senate president that preceded her decision to not seek re-election in the legislative cabinet.
Opinion: For the last few weeks your Student Government has looked like a boxing match. SG "officials" have become children in suits, ganging up on one official with a slew of legal hit after hit. Earlier today, Nov. 17, Senate President Kaitlin Ramirez issued six complaints of noncompliance against Student Body President Joseph Turner, Attorney General Matthew Harris, Senate President Pro-Tempore Shomari Gloster and Chief Justice Daniel Powers.
Senate President Kaitlin Ramirez scheduled an emergency senate meeting for Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the validity of the Fall 2014 elections results and the Articles of Impeachment concerning Attorney General Matthew Harris.
After deliberating over the legal definition of "passage" in the statute at hand, the Student Government (SG) judiciary decided against punitive action concerning Senate President Kaitlin Ramirez's violation of a constitutional statute.
Carlo Fassi, current Student Body President, responded late March 4 to a daily news story. His comment originally appeared on the Spinnaker's Facebook page and is reproduced here.
