In a few days of dominance, the No. 56 UNF men’s tennis team won 12 of a total 14 points against the two teams it faced.
The Ospreys concluded their nonconference schedule by beating the Elon University Phoenix 7-0 March 21. They began their conference schedule against the Jacksonville University Dolphins March 24, finishing their bout against the Dolphins March 26 due to inclement weather. The Ospreys beat the Dolphins 5-2.
The win against the Dolphins racked up another point for the Ospreys in the SunTrust River City Rumble, bringing the Ospreys’ lead to 9-3 on the year.
The match versus JU was possibly the last match between the two programs because JU was forced to cut the men’s and women’s tennis programs due to lack of funding.
The Ospreys’ next match is at Florida Gulf Coast University March 29, followed by another match against the No. 74 Stetson Hatters March 31.
Since losing to the then-No. 36 University of Miami Feb. 26, the Ospreys have been on a tear. UNF has won seven of its last eight matches, its lone loss to East Tennessee State University March 17.
If the Ospreys win their next matches against FGCU and Stetson, the team will have gone 9-1 in the month of March, including three wins over nationally ranked teams.
The most wins in a month in the team’s Division I history came in its inaugural season. In 2005, the team won 10 of its 12 matches in the month of March.
