News in Brief

Recent fondling story false

A UNF student who claimed she was fondled in the second floor lounge of the Osprey Landing Feb. 1 has admitted to falsifying statements, said UPD Chief John Dean.

In the original report, the victim said she was arguing with her boyfriend on the phone and screamed after the lights were switched on and off several times before the assailant pushed her and touched her all over.

An investigation of the incident led to several conflicting reports that did not corroborate her statements, but Dean said she stuck to her story even though she could not explain why the facts didn’t add up.

Dean said it was suspected early in the investigation that she was lying about the incident for attention.

No charges are being filed by UPD and the case is now in Student Conduct.
