A list of UNF traditions will be unveiled at an event tomorrow.

Student Affairs is hosting a UNF Traditions Celebration at the Boathouse Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. Students, Alumni, Faculty, and Staff are all welcomed to attend.

Bill Delaney, the Information Specialist of Student Affairs, said the event budget is about $4,900 and received its funding from the Student Life & Services Fee from the Future Initiatives reserve.

He said the list of traditions came out of the Traditions Project, which started about 12 months ago.

Delaney said they put together a series of focus groups and surveyed Students, Alumni, Faculty, and Staff. They received over 700 responses and narrowed the suggestions down to twelve traditions unique to the UNF experience.

He said one of the traditions is the “Tommy G.,” which is student slang for staying in the library and having date night with Tommy G. He said it comes from the name Thomas G. Carpenter Library.

He said another obvious tradition is the “SWOOP.” He said it started about eight years ago at orientation and has been a UNF tradition ever since.
