The UNF Gallery of Art held its opening reception for its current resident exhibit entitled “Regarding Leisure” on March 5. The exhibit features 30 photographs from 25 artists across the country examining American culture through the unique lens of our pleasures, passions and pastimes.

The show culminated with the announcement of its winner Joe Johnson and two honorable mentions, Emile Askey and Rebecca Sittler.

Christopher Luhar-Trice, assistant professor of photography who juried and helped curate the show, said he has been interested in the idea of leisure for some time.

“Free time is kind of a new concept, the idea that we have free time to do what we want outside of what we need to do to survive…[at the gallery] we have quite an array of what this means to different people,” Luhar-Trice said.

Amelia Gabriel, UNF student and art minor, said she enjoyed Shreepad Joglekar’s “Ditch,” a work where she can appreciate the variation of value between black and white.

According to the UNF Gallery of Art’s website, “Regarding Leisure” will be on display until May 5.
