Ice cream is the perfect treat to keep cool and bear the dog days of summer. Fortunately, Jacksonville is home to a handful of great ice cream shops that are worth the trip. Stop by one of these spots for a tasty frozen dessert.

Dreamette

Rated as 2015’s #1 ice cream parlor in Florida, Dreamette specializes in soft serve ice cream where customers can add toppings from sprinkles to fruit and caramel to fudge. Also, add another layer of flavor with a dipping shell. The Atlantic Beach and Mandarin locations accept credit cards while the Westside location only takes cash.

Five F(x)

Stop by Five F(x) if you’re in the Baymeadows area for a custom-made, frosty treat. After you select a base (milk, yogurt, soy or almond) and a flavor, the mixture is then taken to a deep freezer where ice cream is made right before your eyes. Five F(x) is also known for its taiyaki. You can fill these fish-shaped waffle pastries with anything from Nutella to raspberry to cream cheese. Think of it as a freshly made pop tart.
