As rush week comes to a close, members can now purchase all their Greek-wear at the new Greek Shipping Co. located on campus.
The store, located in Building 8 next to Sbarro, opened Aug. 16 and offers a variety of Greek apparel for students to fully decorate their college lifestyle. The store offers items for the IFC, Panhellenic and Multicultural fraternities and sororities at UNF.
The Greek Shipping Co. provides T-shirts, glassware, flip-flops and a variety of other items for students to purchase. Students are also able to purchase custom embroidered shirts and jerseys, as well as customized paddles and jewelry.
Store employee C.J. Galanti said many of the sororities are coming in and making custom hair barrettes and headbands. Sororities will use clay to form the letters of their sororities and add rhinestones and glitter to decorate the clay, then have them up for purchase in the Greek store.
Galanti, a UNF psychology junior and a member of Sigma Chi, said the benefits of having a Greek store on campus are that students can see the items in person before they purchase them.
“A lot of students don’t feel comfortable and confident when they order online, whether it’s a custom order or just a shirt in itself, so here, they can see shirts, they can feel the material,” Galanti said.
Another option students have at the Greek store is to have their shirts and jerseys custom-made. Student can bring in their own fabric, and the Greek store will create special stitching and other unique designs.
Another store employee Blane Donahue, a UNF criminal justice sophomore and a member of Delta Upsilon, said the store will help students save money on gas, since most other stores are a bit further away.
“It’s the way for them to not have to drive anywhere off campus,” Donahue said. “Once they’re on campus for classes, they can come in [and] get anything they need for Greek.”
Donahue also said the prices at the Greek store are cheaper than options online and other stores that provide Greek apparel. He said the store hopes to provide better options for customers. Donahue said shirts range from $15 to $25.
The Greek Store doubles as a postal service, as well. Students can have shipments packed at the store and sent off through Fedex, UPS or USPS services.
Allen Soto, a UNF exercise science freshman and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, said the store is really nice to have on campus because it has favorable items for sale. Soto said the store has a better selection of letters than College Book Rack and hopes people will go to the store.
The Greek Store is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
