This Wednesday, students should be cautious of potential smoke near the southwest corner of campus as a controlled burn is set to begin at 9 a.m.
The controlled burn will take place over 15 acres of the Sawmill Slough Preserve and should last four to five hours.
The goal of this prescribed burn is to provide “ecological restoration and to reduce the risk of wildfires in the area,” according to the Sawmill Slough Preserve curator, Chuck Hubbuch.
Hubbuch said that students might see swells of smoke in the air but shouldn’t be worried as the smoke will not be problematic.
