June 12 was proclaimed Pulse Remembrance Day by Governor Rick Scott. Flags will be flown at half-staff to honor the 49 victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting.

“The horrific terror attack at Pulse attempted to rip at the seams of our society, strike fear in our hearts and divide us. Yet, in the face of extreme adversity and loss, Floridians showed resiliency, bravery and love,” Scott said.

He also acknowledged the first responders, officers, medical  and others who helped through this difficult time.

A year ago today, 49 people were killed and 59 more patrons were injured by gunman Omar Mateen at the Orlando nightclub. This was the deadliest mass shooting and the largest one carried out on the LGBT community in America.

There will be a Pulse Orlando Remember Reflect and Respond event hosted on campus at noon today by the LGBT Resource Center to reflect on the one-year anniversary.
