Student Body President Samantha Mims sent an email to all UNF students on Oct. 9 announcing her resignation because she wants to focus on her “health and well-being.”

“When I took the Oath of Office to become your Student Body President, I promised to perform the duties of office to the best of my abilities so help me God,” Mims wrote in the email.

“After speaking with our Attorney General, we have come to the conclusion that I can no longer uphold the oath and for that reason, and with a heavy heart, I am resigning as the Student Body President of the University of North Florida effective October 16th.”

Mims appointed Gloria Turner to fulfil the SG vice president position, effective immediately. Turner  previously held the chief of staff role. The former Student Body Vice President Cole Poppell resigned last month to pursue “new opportunities.”

Even though Mims will no longer be president, she says she still plans on advocating for the Mental Health Awareness Day, which was one of her main initiatives.

Mims went on to thank UNF students, the Board of Trustees, Florida Student Association and SG staff members.
