Dec 21 – Theft (Bldg. 43)
Victim Larry Miller said at 5 p.m. Dec. 20 he left his office for the day and recalled leaving a $20 bill on his desk. When he returned the following day the $20 was missing. He believes the door was locked while he was away. A key audit revealed a custodian accessed the room. UPD attempted to contact a custodial supervisor, but at the time of the report none were available. It cost $14.46 to perform the search for the $20. The investigation continues.
Dec. 23 – Information (Student Union)
UPD observed an exterior storage room door leading from the hallway to the kitchen area of the Student Union was forced open, causing damage. The door was processed for prints with negative results. Damage is estimated at $60.
Jan. 3 – Drunken Disturbance (The Fountains)
At approximately 1 a.m. UPD was dispatched to Osprey Fountains in response to a disturbance involving two intoxicated residents. The police report states they were disturbing residents and verbally threatened another person(s). Alcohol was found in both residents’ dorms. Upon canvassing one suspect’s room, a bottle of prescription medicine was found. It was not prescribed to the suspect, who claimed to take the medication for a cough. Said suspect was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and breach of peace and transported by Rescue 59 to Mayo Clinic for further observation. The other suspect was arrested and taken to the Duval County Jail for breach of peace.
Jan 3 – Vandalism (Cell Tower lot 34)
UPD responded to lot 24 in reference to its gate lock being cut. The complainant said when he arrived at the cell tower he noticed the lock had been cut. It was hidden in such a way that it wasn’t noticeable, he said. Dispatch said the gate was last opened by UPD Dec. 8. Patrol efforts have been suspended.
Jan. 4 – Burglary (The Fountains)
UPD was dispatched to Osprey Fountains in reference to a Burglary. Several victims said when they left for winter break their dorm rooms were secure. Upon returning they found their rooms had been burglarized. At least four dorm rooms in the Fountains West building reported thefts over the holiday. Items stolen included a long board, computer and electronic equipment, jewelry, a television and an Xbox. UNF spokeswoman Sharon Ashton said the burglaries may have had something to do with the routine waxing of the dormitory room floors. The case has not been cleared. The investigation continues.
Jan 5 – Intoxicated Student (The Fountains)
At approximately 12 a.m., UPD responded to a student who was apparently intoxicated and had taken prescription medication, Zoloft. The complainant stated that the student told him she had consumed six glasses of wine and taken an unknown amount of Zoloft. The student was evaluated at the scene by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue personnel and transported to Mayo Clinic for further observation.
