President Szymanski announces plans to review the UNF alert system

Lianna Norman, News Editor

An Osprey Update Wednesday morning carried news that President David Szymanski has mandated a full review of the University alert system’s response to the incident involving a false report of a gunman in the Arena Garage at 6:00 on Feb. 11.

According to a Spinnaker twitter poll, 84 percent of the 261 students polled received an alert of the situation on campus an hour after the University knew of the potential threat. The Osprey Update stated that the reason for the review of the system will be to “determine what worked well and to identify areas for improvement,” and stated that the University has hired an emergency management consultant to asses the system.

“It’s anticipated that the review will take several weeks but will be made available as soon as possible,” the update said.
