Tyler Perry Studios is making some additions: A new residence for youth in need

Intern Reporter, Jessica Volz

The largest film production studio, Tyler Perry Studios, will be a future residence for displaced members of the community.

Perry’s next set of goals for the old confederate base-turned-production studio is to bring relief to those experiencing adversity.

“You know what,” Perry tells Essence Magazine, “right now I’m dreaming about how do I build this shelter for trafficked girls, boys and battered women.”

During Perry’s interview with Gayle King on the CBS Morning Show he spoke more on the subject, mentioning the shelter is also for members of the LGBTQ+ community.

The visionary shares his plans to build an apartment-style facility on the studio’s property. He did not, however, go into further detail about all of the logistics.

Perry plans to provide jobs on-site and equip those with the skills necessary to succeed.

Perry is also known for being the first black man to achieve ownership of the largest production studio, according to thegrapevine.theroot.com.

Tyler speaks of knowing hardship, from childhood abuse to experiencing being broke and homeless.

“I work very very hard,” says Perry, “this entire journey of telling stories was born out of pain… out of an abused kid who could go inside of his head and create an imagination.”

The grand opening took place earlier this month and was announced during the BET Awards. Perry’s Production studio trumps Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros., Paramount and Sony in size combined.
