Two local podcasts hosting a food drive

Comic nerds and hip-hop heads, unite!

Two local podcasts, The Short Box and Hip Hop & Hookah, are planning a food drive for Friday, Nov. 8, to benefit the non-profit organization, Feeding Northeast Florida.

The Short Box Podcast has been voted Folio Weekly’s Best Local Podcast in 2017 and 2018. It has released episodes since late 2012, with a focus on the comic book and Jacksonville arts scenes. Besides comic book specific news, episodes cover a range of pop culture topics including Netflix shows, movies, and music.

The food drive will be hosted at Spliff’s Gastropub, and attendees who participate by bringing a canned or non-perishable food item will be entered into a raffle.

Confirmed prizes for the raffle currently include a $50 gift card to Coliseum of Comics, signed art prints from Artgerm Collectibles, and a collectible statue from Gotham City Limit.

Beyond a podcast, Hip Hop & Hookah also hosts events with the goal of serving the Hip Hop and Urban communities and highlighting local artists. In addition to the podcast, fans of hip hop and hookah culture can find original local music, social media content and more on their website.

Anyone (of legal drinking age) interested in connecting with the Jacksonville arts community, supporting a local non-profit, or simply swapping an old favorite comic for someone else’s should save the date.
