As the mayhem of a new school term settles, it seems only right to offer this piece of advice to all: take breaks and have fun.
The opportunities offered to every student are diverse, plenty and often free. So why just lounge around before, between or after classes?
Here are things you can take advantage of throughout the week.
Monday
Hit the pool in the morning for a water exercise class or go for a dip after a hard day of academics. The UNF Aquatic Center is open 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily.
If the water’s not for you, have a run on the treadmill or go on a bike ride. The Fitness Center in the UNF Arena is open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. Soon to be posted are the equally fun and sweat-inducing group exercise classes. Check out unf.edu/recsports for updates.
Tuesday
Get your flower child on. The UNF Wildlife Sanctuary at the entrance of the UNF Nature Trails offers free equipment rentals. Use your ID to check out a canoe or kayak and paddle out into UNF’s lake, or camp out on the Nature Trails. The Sanctuary is open from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Wednesday
Osprey Productions has free events and movie screenings every Wednesday in Building 58, room 2704. You provide yourself; they the provide snacks, drinks and entertainment.
For a more exclusive good time, check out Wet Wednesdays at the UNF Aquatic Center. Held the third Wednesday of each month from 8:30-9:30 p.m., it offers a student-only night swim.
Thursday
Movies on the House are screened at 7 p.m. in the Robinson Theatre every other Thursday. Provided by Academic Affairs and the President’s Office, this event offers free popcorn and shows independent and artistic films unseen by mass audiences.
Friday
Check out the skate park, free to all students, faculty and staff aged 18 and older or 17 with a parent waiver. Open every day from sunrise to sunset, it’s a great place to watch, practice or just play. For more details or to get a copy of the waiver, check out unf.edu/recsports.
