A category 4 hurricane with 140 mph winds is expected to barrel through Haiti and surrounding islands late tonight as it moves north up the Caribbean Sea.
Hurricane Matthew is expected to bring 15-25 inches of rain to Haiti and has already caused two deaths, authorities said.
The National Hurricane Center advisory says Matthew will approach southwestern Haiti tonight and move through Cuba and the Bahamas Tuesday or Wednesday night.
Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency Monday to ensure the necessary resources were available in case of evacuations.

“While there are no evacuation orders currently in place, this storm could threaten our state with very little notice and no one should be caught off guard,” according to Scott’s statement.
It’s too early for forecasters to predict whether Matthew will directly hit the United States.
