Tennis athletes shine on and off the court

Players on the North Florida men’s and women’s tennis team brought home multiple Atlantic Sun awards on April 19 for their performance on the court and in the classroom.

Lasse Muscheites earned his third Atlantic Sun Player of the Week and finished the regular season with the undefeated mark of 9-0 at his No. 2 spot on the courts. Muscheites also joined his teammate Yannick Zuern on the 2016 Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference Team. This is the first time since 2012 that UNF has had two athletes on the list.

For the women, Noemi Hemmerich earned the final Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award of the season. While at the No.1 spot, Hemmerich finished 5-1 for singles play.

Teammate Luise Intert, who finished an undefeated 6-0 at the No.4 spot, earned a place on the 2016 Atlantic Sun Women’s Tennis All-Academic Team.

Both teams are heading to the Atlantic Sun Championships in Spartansburg, South Carolina starting on April 22 as high seeds.

Men’s tennis is the No. 2 seed after a victory over Stetson and will face the winner of Stetson and Kennesaw State on April 23 at 11:30 a.m.

Women’s tennis holds the top seed with a 6-0 regular season record and will face the winner of Lipscomb and Kennesaw State on April 23 at 2 p.m.
