Feb. 20 Damaged Property (Building 41) – An officer noticed some type of motor-driven vehicle damaged a sign in front of the UPD building. There were no car or truck indentations on the grass near the sign, but the grass had been mowed earlier that day. The investigation is ongoing.
Feb. 20 Battery (Osprey Landing) – An officer met with the room resident and her boyfriend, the victim. The room resident said the victim had been in an argument with the suspect, who was visiting the room. The suspect asked the resident for her number, and the victim became angry because the suspect had asked for his girlfriend’s number, and he suggested the suspect leave. The victim and the suspect then began to argue, and the suspect started to hit the victim with a closed fist in the face and head. The two separated, and the suspect left the room. The victim said his head began to bleed following the altercation, so he went to the hospital and had a laceration sutured. The victim said he had not reported the battery to the hospital, causing the delay in reporting it to UPD, because he did not want to make it an issue. The officer then contacted two UNF students who had also been in the room at the time of the argument. The first student said he did not see how the fight started but admitted there was alcohol in the room. The second student said he did not see who instigated the incident, but he thought the suspect caused everything. No other persons involved are residents or students at UNF. The investigation is ongoing.
Feb. 21 Disturbance (The Boathouse) – An officer met with the complainant and three subjects. The complainant said he noticed the subjects involved in a verbal altercation, after which a physical altercation ensued. The three subjects were questioned and admitted to consuming alcohol before the incident occurred. One of the subjects sustained injuries to his neck but refused to allow Jacksonville Fire and Rescue to treat him. The subjects left the Boathouse and were referred to Student Conduct.
Feb. 22 Theft (Osprey Fountains) – An officer met with the victim, who said he left his bicycle, secured with a chain, to a nearby bicycle rack area. The victim later returned to retrieve his bicycle and discovered that both the bicycle and the chain lock were missing, so he searched the immediate area with negative results. The officer conducted a search of the area with negative results. The case has been suspended, due to the lack of an identifiable suspect.
Feb. 22 Sick Person (Osprey Fountains) – An officer met with the complainant, who said he had an allergic reaction to an allergy prevention injection. Prior to the officer’s arrival, the complainant took two doses of epinephrine and an over-the-counter medication. The complainant was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital.
Feb. 23 Marijuana Use (Osprey Crossings) – An officer met with the complainant, an RA, who said he smelled burning marijuana coming from a room while completing his housing checks. The officer knocked and entered the room after receiving permission. The two suspects said they were smoking marijuana in the bathroom. Both suspects were given their rights and admitted to owning the paraphernalia in the room, which included a glass bong, a pipe and plastic baggies and bottles with marijuana residue. The officer also noticed several air fresheners in the room and blankets behind the room and bathroom doors. Both suspects were issued a Notice to Appear, and the listed property was placed in the JSO Property Room. The suspects were referred to Student Conduct.
Feb. 25 Alcohol/Disruption (Osprey Village) – An officer met with an RA in reference to a noise and alcohol complaint. The officer was granted access to the room and noticed several empty beer cartons, beer bottles and a beer bong. The room resident said some friends were staying over with her roommates. The visitors came out of the room but claimed to have been asleep. Through investigation, it was found there were more beer bottles in the refrigerator. None of the occupants claimed ownership of the alcohol, and all were under 21. The officer had the residents pour out the alcohol and properly dispose of the bottles and beer bong. The students were referred to Student Conduct.
