Located on the third floor of the student union, the University of North Florida Student Government works to address the needs of the UNF student body.
Like the United States government, SG is split into three branches — executive, judicial and legislative.
Under Title III of UNF SG Constitution and Statutes, the Executive Branch enforces the constitution’s statutes and coordinates events, programs, and services. It consists of the Executive Cabinet and Executive Agencies. Members serve on university committees, collaborate with athletes and Greek life, act as event spokespeople, and organize events for the student body, according to the UNF website.
Once the student body president and vice president are elected to SG, they are responsible for creating a cabinet to run the Executive Branch, as outlined in Title III.
“Vice President Mazzella and I have worked very closely throughout this process, spending significant time in the office reviewing applications and conducting interviews,” said Student Body President Hazel Joseph. “We function as a strong team, supporting one another while making thoughtful and intentional decisions to select students who will benefit Student Government, the student body, and grow from the experience themselves.”
Student Body President and Vice President
The student body president serves as the chief executive, administering and enforcing all SG laws and statutes, as provided in Title III.
The president represents SG on the UNF Board of Trustees (BOT) and appoints members to university-wide committees, as required by Title III.
The president is an ex officio member of the UNF Foundation and Alumni Association boards, leads the UNF delegation to the Florida Student Association (FSA), and serves as the primary Student Government liaison to community organizations.
The student body vice president assumes the president’s duties in the president’s absence or at the president’s request, according to Title III.
The vice president oversees Executive Agencies and commissions with the president, coordinates with the Executive Cabinet, and collaborates with the president and treasurer on executive initiatives.
Student Body Treasurer
The student body treasurer is responsible for monitoring all Activity and Service (A&S) fee accounts and indexes, overseeing budget transfers and requests, and creating and presenting a balanced budget with the approval of the Budget and Allocations (B&A) Committee, as outlined in Title XIII.
The A&S fee is a part of UNF tuition and funds student departments, services, and resources throughout the year, according to the UNF website.
Additional duties include serving on the Club Funding Board and participating in at least one university-wide committee.
Attorney General
The attorney general serves as the chief executive prosecutor for SG and represents the student body in all legal proceedings.
Under Title XIII, the role includes issuing binding interpretations of the SG Constitution, Statutes, or policies upon written request, although these interpretations are subject to judicial review.
The attorney general also acts as the chief prosecutor for allegations of Election Code violations, provides legal advice to any member of SG, and acts as an advisor to the elections commissioner.
Director of Graphic Design
The director of graphic design is responsible for creating original graphic designs for SG in consultation with the director of public relations, the chief of staff, and the professional staff, as outlined in the job description.
They aim to identify new initiatives to engage students and raise awareness of SG.
Director of Public Relations
The director of public relations manages Student Government social media and branding, oversees media interactions and public records requests, and develops communication strategies for new initiatives, according to the job description.
The role includes collaborating with professional staff, the director of graphic design, and executive leadership, as well as participating in meetings, university committees and events.
Student Advocate
The student advocate serves as a student liaison through SG to assist students with problems, concerns and complaints.
On the job description, they serve as an ex officio member of the University and Student Affairs (USA) Committee, and attend weekly meetings with the student body president and the Executive Cabinet. Under Title XIII, they also serve as the chief public defender within SG.
Over the spring 2026 semester, the position has remained vacant.
“We are currently in the process of selecting a Student Advocate after the position was not filled last semester,” said Joseph. “Our focus is on identifying a student who is committed to serving as a strong voice for students and connecting them with the resources and support they need.”
Chief of Staff
The chief of staff oversees and collaborates with the Executive Staff, as outlined in the job description on the Executive Branch page. They are responsible for raising students’ awareness of SG activities, events and resources.
Additionally, the chief of staff assists the student body president and vice president with implementing goals and initiatives. They are also involved in multiple University-Wide Committees.
Executive Agencies
These agencies serve as administrative divisions of the Executive Branch, providing support, entertainment, and education for UNF students, in accordance with the Executive Agency Statute (Title XI).
The Osprey Involvement Center (OIC) at the University of North Florida supports more than 200 Registered Student Organizations by providing involvement coaching, leadership development, and community-building services. The OIC is located on the first floor of the John A. Delaney Student Union, along with Lend-A-Wing Pantry and Lend-A-Fit.
Lend-A-Wing Pantry at the University of North Florida addresses student food insecurity by offering free, anonymous access to food, hygiene products and school supplies, while Lend-A-Fit provides students with professional attire at no cost for interviews and workplace needs.
The newest agency, Osprey Student Conduct Advisors (OSCA), was established in 2023 to help students navigate the university’s conduct process. The OSCA office is on the third floor of the Student Union.
“The UNF Code of Conduct is often overlooked by students due to its length, and that causes disconnect between students and the Dean of Students,” said OSCA Director Sydney Osborne. “Our goal is to enhance the overall student conduct process and provide students with the information they are afforded as Ospreys.”
