The following information is according to reports from the UNF Police Department.
Why are your eyes bloodshot?
An officer was greeted with the smell of marijuana on Oct. 17 after he entered a room in Building E of the Osprey Villages to investigate a fire alarm going off at 9:58 p.m.
When the officer asked what set the fire alarm off, all three suspects said it was a water vapor cigarette.
The officer asked why the room smelled like marijuana and noted the suspects’ eyes were watery and bloodshot. One of the suspects said they had been smoking marijuana. He said there was marijuana and alcohol in the room.
The officer found 2.7 grams of marijuana, a large half empty bottle of Captain Morgan, a half empty bottle of Sailor Jerry and a half empty bottle of Du Bouchett Liqueur.
The officer referred both students to Student Conduct.
Drive-thru smoker
An officer smelled marijuana after conducting a traffic stop on Kernan Boulevard at 9:49 p.m. on Oct. 17.
The driver gave the officer permission to search the car after informing him there was a pipe inside. The officer found the pipe and 1.8 grams of marijuana.
The driver is not a UNF student and has been arrested for marijuana in the past. She was issued a Notice to Appear.
Peeing in public
A UNFPD officer detained a student on Oct. 18 at 8:42 p.m. for urinating on a food truck during Ozzie’s Oktoberfest at the Coxwell Amphitheater.
The owner of the food truck said he saw the student urinate and also saw his genitals.
The student was arrested for disorderly intoxication. He made threats that he was going to harm himself and was transported to the hospital. He was turned over to a guard at JSO and absentee booked.
Caught in a hazy smoke of lies
An officer found four grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and wine in the Osprey Fountains on Oct. 19 after a suspect denied she had been smoking in her room.
The officer went to the Fountains at 9 p.m. because of an anonymous tip about marijuana smell. The suspect tried to pretend the room wasn’t hers and said the occupant of the room was in the shower. When the officer knocked on the bedroom door in question, the suspect said, “Oh, that’s my room give me a second.”
She went in her room and took several minutes to come back out. When the door opened, a man exited, buttoning his shirt.
They both said they hadn’t been smoking in the room, but the suspect admitted she drank wine.
The officer advised her to get rid of the wine in her cup.
The officer spotted a glass pipe on the window ledge of her room. He told the suspect it was important to be honest, and she handed over the marijuana. She said it was all she had in the room.
The officer said if she was lying and he found anything else, he would take her to jail. She gave the officer more marijuana. The officer then found a bottle of wine in the fridge.
The suspect was arrested for marijuana and drug possession and referred to Student Conduct.
Cooperative driver hands over 4.1 grams
On Oct. 20, an officer smelled burning marijuana after he stopped a car at 11:46 p.m. on UNF Drive because the vehicle’s tail lights were out.
He asked the driver if she had been smoking and she said no. However, she said she had marijuana.
The officer searched the car and found 4.1 grams of marijuana and a glass pipe with marijuana residue.
The officer wrote that, due to the driver’s honesty and cooperation, she would not be criminally prosecuted, and he referred her to Student Conduct.
