Spinnaker received two letters on Nov. 12 from UNF senators regarding the recent controversy in SG. The senators wish to remain anonymous. The Spinnaker has confirmed that both people who wrote the letters are senators, and is respecting their anonymity due to the current tension within SG.
The following letters have been edited for the purpose of clarification.
Below the second letter are the original letters, showing what was edited.
“I cannot believe that the attorney general and the president have been harassing the senate president so much that she actually brought the attorney general up for impeachment. I suppose it shouldn’t surprise any of us after seeing the interpretation Harris used for Article 2, sections 3 & 5. This interpretation was a blatant attack on the legislative branch but it was most likely intended just for the senate president. The fight probably broke out when the non-compliance was filed by the president against the senate president. Turner didn’t even have the respect and etiquette to stay at the court hearing or even justify the non-compliance; he simply let the attorney general do it. I suppose that is what a lap dog is good for. I personally don’t understand why this is even happening. Records have been updated faster and made clearer during Kaitlin’s time as senate president. Of course, if the senate does not vote to file the impeachment charge against Matthew Harris, then the attorney general or the president will file impeachment charges against Kaitlin Ramirez. I hope that the Senate doesn’t just roll over and do what Turner and Harris want just because because they say so.
Signed, Senator A.”
“Alright, so Matthew Harris has had impeachment charges filed against him by Kaitlin Ramirez. Joe was upset about it and stood up in the Senate to defend his friend Matthew so he would not get impeached. However, Joe’s actions may bring some validity to Kaitlin bringing Matthew up for impeachment. His interpretation of Article 2, section 3 and section 5 of the constitution was obviously an attack against the legislative branch.
The executive branch has been doing this for a few months now. Bringing up Kaitlin for the notice of non-compliance was stupid because the records have never been more up to date than they have been during Kaitlin’s tenure. I just don’t like them making a nice girl like Kaitlin go through this. It does look like Matthew and Joe are trying to get rid of Kaitlin and I don’t like it. I don’t like how we are dealing with all these power struggles. We should be helping the students, that is our job. Instead, we have the executive branch fighting Kaitlin and the senate president pro-tempore, Shomari Gloster, seemingly not on her side.
Student Government is democracy for the students. It is beginning to look more and more like a dictatorship from where I sit. I’m not supporting anyone at this point. I’m supporting justice, and not the justice process in Student Government because I don’t know if I believe in that anymore, but a justice that the student will approve of.
Signed, Senator for Justice.”
