The UNF women’s basketball team lost its first home game of the season against the Georgia State Panthers Saturday, Nov. 15. The Ospreys lost the game 59-72.
“We made some bad decisions with some of our passes,” said Head Coach Mary Tappmeyer. “Thirty-four of their points came off of our 28 turnovers. If we had taken care of the ball, it would have been a different game. We have some young talent, but you have to ride through the growing pains with that young talent.”
Despite losing, UNF sophomore guard Bailey Florin had a career-high of 16 points for the game. Senior center from Lithuania, Paulina Zaveckaite, had a double-double for the night, stowing away 11-points and 17-rebounds for the Ospreys.
“Paulina’s always been a beast on the boards,” said Tappmeyer. “She did a really good job on the glass.”
The UNF women’s basketball team will play again tomorrow afternoon, Nov. 18 against Edward Waters College in the UNF Arena. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. The game is in honor of Elementary School Day, where an expected 2,500 kids from surrounding schools are set to be in attendance.
