As students walked past the Student Union on Tuesday night, they stumbled upon something that put a “twist” on their average weekday night.
The twist is a new weekly art initiative put on by the Office of Campus Life called Tuesdays with a Twist, that gives students the opportunity to explore the world of art through a hands-on experience—for free.
According to Jessica LeClair, organizer for Tuesdays with a Twist, this new initiative is set up as a pop-up event in order to “bring students out through art.” The event is part of a student-friendly program and will offer various art projects to students for free.
At first, the event hosted a modest gathering of creativity-seekers, but as more people started to show up, the tenacity of each student began to increase and the energy started flowing. The line started with a few students, but quickly jumped to roughly 70 students within an hour of the stand being opened.
Sophomore Maddy Rogero said she waited around so long for the simple fact that she needed more decorations for her dorm.
Hanging out behind the stand stood sophomore Lauren Supihl who tagged along with her friend. She originally had no knowledge of the event, but when she stumbled upon the unique way to form words she joined in on the fun.
“It’s a neat way to use architecture to make words,” said Supihl.
Student Hayley Hanley went on to talk about how it helps people get involved with activities at UNF.
“It gives people the opportunity to learn about the art community at UNF,” said Hanley.
While this event is set up to allow students to get in touch with their artistic abilities and the art community within UNF, they can also use it as an opportunity to get some new stuff for their dorms or apartment.
Tuesdays with a Twist offers students a unique artistic experience that not only produces some beautiful work, but allows students to connect with each other in a new way.
