Claire Ioannidis had a team-high 15 points while Sierra Shepherd added 11 points of her own as UNF Women’s Basketball lost a close six-point contest to the Kennesaw State Owls.
KSU (3-16, ASUN 2-3) had two players go off for 47 points combined, while UNF’s (8-12, ASUN 1-4) five starters combined for only 43. Bench points were the deciding factor: KSU had 28 points off the bench, with a game-high 27 points coming from freshman guard Carlotta Gianolla, while UNF’s bench combined for 18 points.
UNF Head Coach Darrick Gibbs said the Owls made more plays than the Ospreys, although the Ospreys improved drastically in free throw percentage (from 40 percent to 76.9 percent) and cut their turnover count (from 15 to 7) from their last game, a 60-58 nailbiter vs. Lipscomb.
Late in the second half, Tesh Hanson, a redshirt junior, took a hard fall while going for a rebound, leaving the court with assistance. Hanson would not return.
Next UNF looks to recover on the road as they take a short trip south to Deland, Fla. to tipoff against the Stetson Hatters Jan. 28 at 1 p.m.
