Police have identified the suspect, 21-year-old student Kendrex J. White, and have taken him into custody.
A stabbing left one dead and two with “potentially serious injuries” during an incident Monday afternoon at the University of Texas in Austin, according to campus and Austin police.
Two people were stabbed near Gregory Gym and another assaulted according to the Austin Police Department. One of the victims died from their wounds and local hospitals received the two other victims. The incident occurred around 1:46 p.m. central time, according to Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services.
Police asked university students, faculty and staff to avoid the area. As of 3:33 p.m. central time, authorities declared the area safe.
Subject is in custody and there is no ongoing threat to the campus community. We'll provide new details as they unfold.

The university announced that classes were canceled for the day via Twitter.
